What is the fine line between a circus and an art performance? 

“La chasse aux idees folles” was born out of a calling to create something more intimate and true to  me.  

I have been an aerialist for many years, vocationally trained in contemporary circus schools in Chile,  Israel and Italy. I worked mostly in the contemporary circus company, Cirko de Mente in Mexico  before coming back to Mauritius in 2013 to create Baraka Cirq where I mostly teach aerial. My live  performances were until then purely based on movement and musicality following a performance formula that would be an audience pleaser.  

In the last few years, I have been finding ways to tell a story and convey my inner world with my  rope. I played around with digital storytelling and voice-off aerial video montages. “La chasse aux  idees folles” is a live performance that came out of these explorations, my keen interests in  symbolisms, contemplating transgenerational patterns; the treasures, the traps, the silences, the  traumas that make up our family tree in the form of a passionate conversation with a friend. 

I am pleased to be invited to perform “La chasse aux idees folles” at the festival d’art contemporain  de Comores (FACC) in the week of November 14th. 

Whilst everything is sorted to go, we are held back by the air tickets to Moroni: 

The least expensive return route found is via Kenyan airlines on November 13th to return on  November 16th via Air Austral: 40 000 MUR per passenger.
